What is the Low Country and where do you find it? This region of South Carolina includes the four, southern-most counties in the state, Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, and Colleton, which are bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by the Savannah River and the state of Georgia.

Think carriage rides on cobblestone streets, steamy summer afternoons only cured with a glass of sweet tea, art galleries galore, wildlife, streams and rivers plus sailing the coast. History is deep here and stories are passed on for generations.

Montage Palmetto Bluff has it all. You feel the since of history as you drive through the gates where the alligators greet you across the ponds. Spanish moss is wild and almost everyone is getting around via bicycle or by golf cart. This is the place where you can become a kid again or let your kids run free. The biggest obstacle is how to spend your time. Porches and rocking chairs welcome you, tennis, pickle ball, golf, biking and running paths keep you active. Refreshment is found in the pools, spa or in a glass. You could spend a whole day exploring without a formal agenda. Our highlight was paddle boarding and kayaking with about thirty May River dolphins that call the river home. It is a must do while at Montage Palmetto Bluff!

The dining options are many and cocktails are crafted by long running bartenders that know a few celebrity secrets. This is not a regular format resort as there are many lodging offerings, most of which are independent cottages which sell out well in advance. Better yet, get your group together and have The Journey Set organize a gorgeous home rental with all the southern charm you imagine! Touring these homes was certainly a highlight of mine.
